Tivo to PC Question

I want to connect my Tivo Series 2 to a PC. Is it possible to skip using a
router and just use a crossconnect cable with a USB adapter....pretty much
just a straight connection from Tivo to PC?

I plan to get a router in the future and do a broadband connection, but for
now I just want to take an extra PC I have to use as a photo and MP3 server
for my Tivo.

Yes, I believe so.

You'll probably have to configure IPs and whatnot manually, unless you
want to run a DHCP server on the PC.

Yes, I believe so.

Yes, you can use a crossover Ethernet cable.

Unless your PC is running a DHCP server you'll either need to use
ZeroConf addresses on both ends, or manually configure them.
