View Full Version : Sony SAT-HD200 problems

I upgraded from an HD100 to an HD200 and for about a month I enjoyed the
lack of daily crashes and the lack of "acquiring guide" delays. About a
week ago I had (I assume) my first HD200 crash as all my custom stations
disappeared. (It couldn't have been a power failure--the receiver is on
a UPS.) Today the receiver was in a very strange state. On all channels
it would alternate (a 20 second cycle) between freezing video (with good
sound) and a "no signal" banner. After a few hours of hoping that it was
a DirecTV source problem I unplugged the unit for a few minutes and when
I plugged it back in the problem was gone, but of course custom stations
were reset as well. Has anyone else seen this? The life expectancy of
receivers (in terms of compatibility with the data stream) seems to be a
tad short these days. :(

Make sure the signal from your Satellite dish is grounded. Some surge
protectors have in/out ports for the cable. When I first installed my Oval
satellite dish I had zero problems, then after a couple months I started to
get freezing video then recovery pretty often. At the suggestion of a
directv technician as the last thing to try he said to ground my satellite
signal with a compatible surge protector and when I did the glitches
disappeared.

| Make sure the signal from your Satellite dish is grounded.

Both the dish itself and the coaxial cable are correctly grounded.

I bought an HD200 last October, my crashes were freezes when using the menu.
I lived with it for about 6 months and then the freezes became quite
frequent. The first replacement wouldn't turn on. I've used the second
replacement for about a month, it seem reliable but I cannot get the digital
OTA program guide to indicate the schedule. I would document the problem
with Sony, if it happens again have them replace the unit.

It's HDTV doing Something I had the Same Problems as you about a month ago,
I unplugged the Power on my HD200 and reset Favorites, I have not had a
problem since.
