A setup DVD is used to properly set up your home theater. It has test
patterns that allow you to adjust all of the user controls so that you
can get the best (most accurate) picture that those controls can
provide. It also has test patterns that are very useful when adjusting
service mode controls.

They also have test tones to help set up your HT sound system. I've
never used these as my DD receiver came with a calibration microphone
and it did an excellent job of setting itself up.

There are several setup DVDs. "Video Essentials" has been reissued for
DTV as well as NTSC. "Avia" and other titles are available. You can
probably find them available for rent.
