It could be a reflection of the lack of HDTV programming. Would you
watch a movie or a nature show?

There has always been material like this whenever a new format came out.
there used to be those demo Laserdiscs with a lot of macro photography
showing in high detail all the natural wonders.

But it's pretty much eye candy.

I recall a few years back, CBS was the only source of HDTV content and
people were watching shows they otherwise wouldn't watch.

A few years ago a movie was making the rounds -- it was a guy building a
traditional birch-bark canoe. You'd think it would be dull as anything but
it was GREAT! Documentaries and science shows are weird like that. Carl
Sagan had the whole universe to work with in COSMOS and it was flat as last
night's beer. James Burke could tell you about the development of the
stirrup and you'd be on the edge of your seat.
