I am ready to buy a TV, but am undecided on which one. The two I think I
have narrowed it down to are the Sony 51" Widescreen KP51WS510 and the
Mitsubishi 55" widescreen WS55311. The Sony 510 replaced the 500 for this
year. I am not sure which is better as far as normal viewing or who might
have the most problems as far as repairs go. We watch a lot of DVD's and
some TV with DirectTV and have not considered if we will be buy an HD
receiver yet until more programming is available. We are buying a new TV now
because our other is dead.

Thanks for any help provided.

John,

I run the repair shop for a retailer that sells both the Mitsubishi and the
Sony. Both are among the best performers and best in terms of service. I
personally think the Mitsubishi is a better value and prefer its convergence
design, but either is a good choice. Choose the one that has the best
options for service down the road. Best option is a self servicing factory
authorized dealer, next best is a good, reputable independent servicer that
is factory authorized. As far as problems, I could not say which will be
better. Ask in a couple of years. Typically we have very few problems
with either the Sony or the Mits.

John,

Check out this site. It has lots of info and lots of links to help.
I looked at the SONY and Mits a few years ago and bought the SONY
51HW40 HDTV. I liked the picture the features an the price. Haven't
been disappointed in the 2 years that I've had it.
