View Full Version : Series 2 TCD140060 telnet trouble

I've been trying all night to get my tivo to open up tnlited on port 23.
Whether I make a rc.sysinit.author script or put the command right inside
rc.sysinit, I still can't telnet in. I'm using the command:
"tnlited 23 /bin/bash -login &". I'm starting to think that I have to
maybe patch the kernel somehow (killinitrd tells me that it can't find a
tivo disk), or just give up and spend the $20 for DVRupgrade's InstantCake
with the pre-patched kernel already on it. Any ideas?

You can't just modify the files on the tivo and expect them to stick
around. You have to figure out how to run kllinitrd and/or find a
compatible kernel that works with killititrd. If you dont' have a
modified kernel, the tivo will boot... detect that the files have
changed, format and unpack a fresh set, overwriting your changes.
I haven't done killinitrd in a while, but I recall doing something like:
dd if=/dev/hdX of=tivo-kernel -bs=32k
then once you have the kernel in a file, you run killinitrd on the file.
Then dd if=tivo-kernel of=/dev/hdX -bs=32k
( /dev/hdX is where your kernel partion is on your tivo. )

Thanks, I'll try that the next time I get a chance to take my Tivo apart
again. I'll post the results then.

It may take a while before I can attempt another hack. An rca cable went
astray and shorted some components on the motherboard. Does anyone know
of a place other than weaknees.com to get a replacement power supply? I
really don't want to pay $50 for one if I can get a cheaper one elsewhere
(I've checked eBay, they don't have one for me).

Oops, that should say "shorted out components on the power board," not
motherboard.
