If you're really going to do it right, "from scratch" with a new
room, take a look at California Audio Technology. (CAT). Beware
though, it's not "bargain" equipment.

: If it were MY house, I'd do something no one else here has suggested -
: construct the walls where the speakers are to go with a very deep
: framing pocket - one that would allow you to use regular speakers vs.
: the very shallow in-wall varieties. You could then buy something like
: the Onkyo HTIB setup, put all the speakers on stud-shelves IN the
: wall, then put up acoustically-transparent grilles that match your
: walls. You would get far superior sound using speakers designed for
: their performance rather than speakers designed for where they'll fit.
:
: Yes, this would produce slightly smaller room dimensions, as you'd
: have, in effect, a fake wall, but it would allow you to use some
: really good speakers.
:
: Of course, a lot would depend upon what stage of the contruction
: you're at. Once everything's framed - you're more limited in your
: choices.
