Hello.

I am interested in turning my existing stereo system into a home theater system
and I have a few speaker questions. Right now, I have a pair of paradigm
speakers and an old pair of polk bookshelf speakers (that I am actually using
as the paradigm speaker stands). First question, can I use the Polks as my
rear speakers? Also, if I get a center speaker where should it be located? I
have a Sony 27" Wega TV and don't think I can place a center speaker on top of
the TV. Finally any recomendatiosn for both Subwoofer and or center speaker
would be greatly appreciated. Have a great night.

Yes, the polks can be used as rears, though getting speakers that are the
same brand and similar quality to the fronts is preferable. The center
speaker absolutely should be designed to match the front pair. I had a pair
of paradigm mini-monitors and paradigm center channel (cc350) that sounded
great. The center speaker should go as close to the tv as possible, either
above or below. Perhaps you could build a shelf of some sort to support it.
For the subwoofer, you don't need to stay with the same brand. You'll need
to give a price range to get recommendations though.

I have been doing some recent research and work at building a HT using
Paradigm speakers that are not current models.

The previous poster was correct in stating that the center speaker should
match the fronts.

Tell us what model of Paradigm speakers you are using for the fronts. I
think I can help you with a recommendation for a match on the center.
