I want my HD TiVo!

Anybody hear any news about this project?
Is it going to be a combo unit with a Sat. company? (god I hope not.)
Will it be able to record multiple Dolby Digital formats?
Will it get here before we make our own? (heh heh)
Will it still be a TiVo in all the ways that we love them?

A fair bit so far.

Yes - and no.

At CES2003 two different prototypes were shown off. One was a DirecTV
combo that could record DTV HDTV and OTA ATSC HDTV. The other was a
standalone unit that could record the NTSC signals today's unit can
and OTA ATSC HDTV. (No support for cable HDTV at this time -
standards still not finalized for the industry.)

Since they record ATSC it seems logical that they'll record anything
supported in the ATSC standard.

Well, no, since people have already made home units. And there is a
Zenith HDTV DVR on the market now, but it doesn't have a lot of
features.

I would expect so.

1. Don't quote entire articles for one line questions.

2. You can't make your own HDTV TiVo, you can make your own PC based
HDTV DVR. There are HDTV tuner cards for PCs - Google should turn
up info on doing it yourself.
