View Full Version : Questions about TIVO DTV ?

June 29th 03, 04:55 PM
We are always late returning rented tapes and DVDs and always paying the
late fees. This costs us a lot of money but often

I am thinking about getting a DTV / TIVO recorder but only if it can do
certian things.

1. Can DTV / TIVO record Pay-per-view movies? I have heard that it can
not.

2. Can we put them on vhs tape if we need to free up space until we can
view them? We will not keep them on tape. It will only be for our
personal use and will not be traded, sold or lent to anyone else.

Thanks in advance

I remeber reading in the manual that you can infact record a PPV just
like any other program. However it will auto delete in a few days and
that can not be changed (2 or 3 days). You also can not record from the
music only channels. I am not too sure about dumping to tape though. I
have not ordered a single PPV since getting my DirecTivo's and I think
ordered one or maybe two for the whole year + I have had DirecTV.

NetFlix avoids those nasty late fees. I heard an ad from Blockbuster that
sounds like the same idea.

DTivo will record PPV, but it only lets you schedule them a short time in
advance, maybe 30 hours. The rest of the recordings can be a couple of
weeks out.

I use "record to VCR" as I'm going to bed. It puts a little title banner
up, and spits out the video, which is going... presumably to a VCR.
You could just "play" the DTivo recording, and record on the VCR, but the
"record to vcr" option disbale some buttons to prevent putting unwanted
visuals on your tape.

Looks like the Blockbuster thing is only for games, not movies.
