View Full Version : my season pass programme wasnt recorded - how come??

Not as clever as we first thought!

I have a season pass for "Eastenders" set to record new episodes only.

Its regularly broadcast Mondays on BBC1 at 8pm.

However last Monday BBC1 continued coverage of Wimbledon (well done
Tim!) so all the follwoing programs were almost an hour later than
published.

Now my Tivo recorded what it thought was Eastenders 20:00-20:30, which
was of course Wimbledon, and it then failed to record it when it was
eventually broadcast an hour later!

I thought TiVo could work out what was what. I presumed the whole
point of a season pass was to record every broadcast without have to
tell it the specific day / time.

So does anyone have any idea how come this happened?

Thanks for any info

Rob,

TiVo records according to it's schedules that it downloads during the week
(usually overnight each night) and changes with such short notice as this
will not make it to your TiVo in time. It's one of the limitations of the
system I'm afraid.

If the BBC had moved Eastenders because of a pre-planned event (football for
example) then they would have supplied listings saying so, and TiVo would
record it from the changed time with no input needed from you.

Omnibus on Sunday?

Yes, it was a bit of a ****, luckily I watched it on bbc3 at 10PM, you could set up a
season pass for bbc3 10pm showing as well just in case??.

Unfortunately TiVo would not record that, as it would (correctly to itself)
think that it had already recorded the program at 8 p.m., and thus would not
record it again due to the 28 day rule.

The only way to get round this would be to setup a manual repeating
recording for the 10 pm time slot on BBC3, but then you would get two copies
of the episode, except in the rare case that either was not on (due to
Wimbledon - as happened on Monday)

I thought the 28 day rule did not apply as it is a different channel.

I will have a go setting it later, I would set a separate season pass for Eastenders BBC3
on the basic setting, as it would only get watched if the bbc1 showing was missed.

Hold on, now it won't record Big Brother at 10PM Channel4, Damm TiVo, what's the phone
number for Sky+??

It's the same limitation that a VCR would have. Just like TiVo didn't know
Eastenders was delayed, a VCR wouldn't have known either. The only sure
solution I've found (for those programs I just HAVE to see) is to watch my
TiVoed episode before I know it will be reaired. So, if it was delayed or
preempted, I have a second chance to TiVo it. Manual recordings ignore the
28 day rule.

Good luck.
