Anyone know why a few digital tv channels (which I get through comcast) are sending non HDTV material at 1080i? Please forgive my previous posts. Thank You.

I have a 56 inch sony hdtv that can do 480i, 480p and 1080i. I think that not having 720p is kind of a bad thing. Just about all the HDTV content seems to be sent in 1080i though. The best thing for an HDTV to support is 1080p. That just gets the whole debate over with because that is the top...

Sony's auto enhanced 16:9 mode on XBR's by
I don't know what tv's support ways to adjust the image. I have a sony tv that does the same thing as yours does. I blame it on the television channels. 1080i is supposed to be a resolution ONLY for 16x9 content AND high def. If both of these aren't true then it is counter prodecutive to shrink the...

Comcast digital cable DTV by
Please don't take any of my post with a harsh tone. I don't want to attack anyone I just wan't to see if I can confirm my ideas. First off wow! -- Now for your post ... I will assume that you are using a 4:3 HDTV. Also your STB does a force 1080i @ 16:9 for your component output? See on a 4:3...

Comcast ESPNHD by
I saw the new added channel ESPN HD, but thus far all the content I have seen is just low def tv sent at 1080i and a 4:3 image squished vertically in order to fit into a 16:9 shape without having any unused area of the 16:9 screen. The image source is not only low quality but, warped, originally...

Help ! component Video cables by
You either plugged the cables in the wrong order or you have your tv component input set to accept RGB instead of color difference (Y/Cb/Cr) AKA (YUV) like DVD players output.

Recommend a component auto switch box by
There was the auto switchbox that was mentioned in a earlier post (http://www.zektor.com/hds4/index.htm) = $300 The one I've always known about seems to go for less (http://www.audioauthority.com/aacconsumers/1154c.html) = $200 I believe this compnay has a high industry reputation. If you don't...

Computer video with 480p out by
If you set your resolution to 640x480 @ 60hz on your graphics card then you will be outputting a 480p image. The only difference is the connection type is a vga d-sub style plug instead of BNC or RCA. There is no conversion needed with those expensive RGB boxes unless you don't set your resolution...

Using RCA composite for component switching by
I have done exactly this as a temporary alternative untill I have a good reason to spend a lot of money on a component switch box. I have used a radio shack rca composite a/b switch box for a dvd player and a gamecube. I run both devices at 480p. I have never had a problem with dvds but with the...

Comcast Digital cable 4:3 dtv content in 16:9 window. Why not fix this with firmawre or at broadcast. by
I have the motorola DCT5100 and comacst digital cable and a 61 inch 4:3 hdtv monitor. I notice that during the day and often all of the (about 3) digital tv channels on comast digital cable plus when broadcasting digital sometimes show 4:3 aspect material. I have noticed two things about this 4:3...

Reply: STILL UNANSWERED WHY comcast is sending NON-HD material at 1080i? by
I think you misunderstood my I put "STILL UNANSWERED" I wanted people to know that the replies to my post were questions and not answers. I wanted to make sure that people didn't skip over the post because it had been replied to and renamed it so it would be new for the next morning.

STILL UNANSWERED WHY comcast is sending NON-HD material at 1080i? by
Comcast seems to be sending non HDTV material at 1080i. This makes no sense since there will be no increase in image quality. The main problem is that 4:3 digital TV's with an HDTV 16:9 area inside are disigned to show a larger picture for non HD 4:3 digial or analog content but not able to because...

Reply:Why is comcast sending NON-HD material at 1080i? by
Steve the last thing you said was correct. When comcast shows non HD on the 4 or so digital tv channels there are you will not be able to use the 4:3 part of your television just the 16:9 area even though the program is not 16:9 and not HD.

High pitch ringing signal not coming from tv itself but the tv program's audio by
I have noticed for years a high pitch sound that comes from tvs when they are on. This high pitch sound is NOT the one I am talking about. I am refering to very similar if not identical sound that comes from the recorded content of the television show. I notice when the program switches to certain...

VGA to HDTV by
I believe that you could use a simple pass through for vga cable to RGB component video. I've seen these on ebay if you don't want to make your own. The sync goes along with the green signal I believe and the resolution would only work for 640x480 @60hz and maybe the higher equiv if your hdtv does...

Re3: comcast digital cable digital tv channels with 4:3 hdtv monitor and 1080i content broadcasted of 480p @ 4:3 content is not logical. by
Thumper like you said before. If the content is 4:3 then it should not be sent at 1080i.

comcast digital cable digital tv channels with 4:3 hdtv monitor and 1080i content broadcasted of 480p @ 4:3 content is not logical. by
I have a 4:3 hdtv monitor and I have comcast digital cable service. Most of the the material on the 4 digital tv channels (excluding premium channels) is 4:3 content but it is sent at 1080i. If you have a 4:3 tv and it receives 1080i this is supposed to be hdtv content and is thus displayed in a...

So how much do you actually use cable video on demand by
I use the VOD often when there is content I want to watch. I think it is pointless for VOD renting of movies and things that you can get on DVD. The only thing that I'm interested in would be episode based watching. The content availible at a time seems very limited, but if that is going to be the...
