Default Proof: The UK is lying about the Iranian ship

The UK is lying. The original reports said the UK had searched a
"large cargo ship", after stopping "Iranian ships". Now, the UK is
showing photos of a small boat, a "dhow being used by smugglers".

These are dhows, you can see they are small, not a "large carggo
ship":

Here are the original reports:

http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=455672007

Sat 24 Mar 2007

The naval boarding party, from the Type 22 frigate HMS Cornwall, had
been carrying
out a routine search of a large cargo ship in the northern Gulf they
suspected of smuggling cars.

Britain said two boatloads of sailors and marines had searched a cargo
ship in Iraqi waters on a U.N. approved mission when Iranian gunboats
encircled and captured them.

----------------

The Iraqi witness said UK "small boats" stopped "Iranian ships":

http://ca.today.reuters.com/news/new...archived=False

The fisherman, who asked not be named, said six or seven foreign
military personnel were on two small boats that stopped to check
Iranian ships in the Siban area of the waterway, near the al-Faw
peninsula that leads into the northern Gulf.

When they boarded one ship, at least two Iranian vessels appeared on
the scene and the military personnel were detained. There was no sign
of any violent confrontation he said.
------------------------------------

Satellite tracking systems on the British boats also proved they were
inside Iranian waters, it added.

Maps and photos to be released showing captured marines were inside
Iraqi waters

Patrick Wintour, political editor Wednesday March 28, 2007 The
Guardian

The officials will release details today of the co-ordinates of an
Iranian dhow being used by smugglers and boarded by British marines
after it broke down. "There was a boat we inspected," the prime
minister's spokesman said.

The marines, operating off HMS Cornwall, were then surrounded and
captured by the Iranian navy.

Government officials said photographs would show the dhow was well
inside Iraqi waters in the complex Shatt al-Arab waterway. It is
understood the British navy returned to photograph the dhow, and have
details from a Lynx helicopter.

Notice the wording, the photo shows "There was a boat we inspected,"
Not THE boat in question, "a boat".

The Iranians showed on the map where they thought the incident took
place. They were then told that that was still in Iraqi waters. They
said that they had made a mistake and they meant that the incident
took place at another location. Not only are they lying but they are
not even very good at lying.

No, the UK military isn't very good at lying.

An handout graphic issued by the Britain's Ministry of Defence on
March 28,
2007, they now claim the incident took place in the Persian Gulf:

The original reports said the incident took place in the Shatt al-
Arab, a
river between Iran and Iraq.

Iran seizes 15 British Navy personnel

Earlier, an Iraqi fisherman in Basra told Reuters he had seen the
incident
in the Shatt al-Arab waterway that marks the southern stretch of
Iraq's
border with Iran.

The capture of eight British Royal Navy personnel and seven Royal
Marines, based on the frigate, HMS Cornwall, during what the British
Ministry of Defence has insisted was a routine anti-smuggling
operation, has upped the ante as a defiant Iran vows to defend its
interests against Western "aggression". The team were reportedly
intercepted by the naval wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the
Siban area of the al-Faw peninsula on the Shatt al-Arab waterway
leading to the northern Gulf.

"on the Shatt al-Arab waterway leading to the northern Gulf."

NOT in the Gulf, as the UK is now claiming, and showing a photo
of a "dhow" in the Gulf as "proof".

So what gives your interpretation more weight than:

The governments of Muslim countries Iraq, Syria, Turkey
The European Union, United Nations and NATO

The normal procedure in cases like this is to escort the boats away from the
contested area not abduct the crews. It makes one wonder if Iran would
follow normal procedure once they have an excess of Uranium burning a hole
in their dogmas.
