Default Sky box dead

I have a 2 year old lightly used Thomson DSI241C Sky box running the
free channels and channels 4 and 5. Worked fine yesterday. Today no
power light (neither red nor green). I cannot get it to power up. As I
am in France, the plug into the mains is 2 pin so no fuse but a surge
protector. What can I do? Thanks.

Pwehaps more helpfully than the above responses, you could get on to
eBay and bid on a replacement. This is likely to be cheaper than a
repair and if you go for a non-Thomson box, result in something more
reliable.

Sadly Thomson has not covered itself in glory with its Sky boxes. There
are many and varied problems with them.

If you can manage with out C5 for now, what a new Freesat box instead?
C5 is on its way now (no eta though). SD Freesat boxes are pretty cheap,
and will come with a warranty - eBay stuff generally doesn't. Of course,
you have the issue of getting the box to France in the first place .....

Rather than lock yourself into any closed platform, you could go for an
FTA receiver and add extra LNBs to you dish to get channels from 19.2 or
13.0 too.

If you go the $ky route you're at the mercy of $ky. With a Freesat or
FTA box you have a lot more flexibility.

Like the flexibility to upgrade to subscription services once you realise
most of the free channels aren't worth watching?

I know you said there is no fuse as it is a 2-pin type mains plug and it has
a surge protector but if there is a small fuse on the circuit board power
supply, it might be worth checking to see if that has gone.

Is the surge protector located on the plug or built into the back of the SKY
Box?

If there is a small fuse on the circuit board power supply inside the unit,
it might be worth checking to see if that has gone.
