Default You're nearly all still here. Amazon Fire USB stick question

I was given a Version 1 Amazon Fire USB stick for free but no remote, the
giver can't find it down the back of the sofa?? Is it really worth buying
one of the Hong Kong 7.50 remote copies on ebay?

Thanks in advance.

Try one from the pound shop first.

If you want to use lady a then you will need the right remote as it has a
microphone.

I don't think the original version had the Alexa feature, so there
wouldn't be any point in getting a remote with a microphone.

Yes, I would suggest if you can get a remote for 7.50 it'll give you
an idea of what the device is capable of, and then you might want to
consider getting the latest Fire stick from Amazon. More recent
versions have faster processors and so the on-screen transitions are
smoother, and the audio works better with an HDMI to analogue adaptor.
Wait for a bank holiday or other special occasion such as Mother's
Day, Black Friday or any other excuse they sometimes invent, because
they often reduce the prices of their own gadgets for a few days at
such times.

Rod.

Do not think version 1 has a microphone

There is an app you can use instead, if you happen to have smart phone
or tablet.

But to use the App you have to pair it with stick across you're own WiFi
network which is impossible as you do not have a physical remote to
connect the stick to the network via wifi. Arrrgghhh

The current Fire stick can be controlled from an app on your smartphone. Not
sure about version 1.

From time to time Amazon sells the Fire Stick for 25. It has added Alexa
voice control to the remote and there's also a volume control. The whole
thing responds much faster too. It might prove better value than 7.50 for a
lookalike remote.
