what the fark did tivo do the IR controls?

Howdy,

What did tivo do to mess up the channel changing with IR control, why
does it only happen with scheduled recording, and what can I do to fix
it?

I have an old series 2 stand alone with IR control to a motorola cable
box from comcast. No IR tent, but the cable box is in an enclosed
shelf, and the set up changed channels for years without any trouble.

A few months ago, I started getting the wrong channel recorded. Now
it's to the point where about half of the tivo recordings are the
wrong channel. And it _never_ happens when manually changing the
channel with the tivo remote, only when tivo changes the channel for a
scheduled (or suggestion) recording.

I just repeated the "recommended setup" for the IR control where tivo
does a bunch of channel changes and prompts for if the channel was
changed or not. At each step the channel changed correctly. Then 8
o'clock roles around, and the heads-up display shows fox and the
'Bones' program desciption, but the cable box does nothing.

Any thoughts?

(I plan on trying the serial connection for the cable box after
'Bones', but I'm guessing comcast has it disabled on the box.)

They haven't changed the IR system in a long, long time.

Sounds like it could be your emitter(s) have shifted out of place. When you
change channels live, it catches it line-of-sight, and when it tries to
"blast" from the TiVo itself it isn't seeing it.

Perhaps reposition your emitters?
